What Settle Up Index Is

The Settle Up Index is a WHS-style handicap calculator built into the app. It uses the same 8-of-last-20 math that the World Handicap System uses for the official index.

Every solo round, foursome round, and tournament you finish in the app feeds a differential into your record. The app averages the best 8 from your most recent 20 and posts that as your index.

What it is not: The Settle Up Index is not an official GHIN handicap. It is a tracking tool for use inside the app and for side bets. GHIN remains the body of record for tournament posting.

Find It in the App

Open the Menu drawer, tap Profile, and scroll to the Handicap section. Your current Settle Up Index appears at the top.

Right below the number, a source pill tells you whether the value is Calculated (from your posted rounds) or Manual (a value you typed in, or one synced from GHIN).

Source pill: Two sources only, by design. Calculated comes from your rounds. Manual covers everything else (GHIN sync, you typed it in, your friend told you). The app never invents a third bucket.

Read Your Differentials

Tap the index to open the differential modal. You see every round in your 20-round window, sorted by differential. The 8 best are highlighted; those are the ones that count toward your index.

Each row shows the date, course, tee, gross score, course rating and slope, and the calculated differential. Excluded rounds appear at the bottom of the modal with a strikethrough.

Less than 20 rounds? The app uses the WHS scaling table. With 5 rounds it averages the best 1, with 10 rounds it averages the best 3, and so on up to 8 of 20.

Exclude a Round

Open any past round from History. Toggle Exclude from stats at the bottom of the round. That flips the included_in_index flag for that round to false.

The round drops out of your 20-round window immediately, and the next-most-recent round slides in to take its place. The index recalculates and the new value posts to your profile.

When to exclude: Scramble rounds, range-finder-banned tournaments, the round where you bailed at hole 4. Keep your index clean by tagging anything that does not represent your real game.

Sync Index to Player

Below the index, tap Sync Index to Player. The current Settle Up Index value becomes your player handicap for all new rounds and tournaments.

The benefit: course handicaps for your next round are calculated from a number that reflects your recent play, not a stale value from three months ago. New stroke holes are assigned correctly. Bets settle on accurate net scores.

One tap: Sync whenever you want. The app does not auto-overwrite your manual handicap, so the timing is up to you. Sync before a big game; do not sync if a recent blowup is dragging the number up.

A handicap that updates itself

Most golfers track their handicap in one of three ways: pay for a GHIN subscription, eyeball a number based on recent scores, or do nothing at all and use whatever index they have written down. The Settle Up Index gives you a fourth option that costs nothing and runs on rounds you are already posting in the app.

Every round you finish in Settle Up Golf is converted into a differential and stored against your profile. The math is the same calculation the World Handicap System uses: (Adjusted Gross Score minus Course Rating) times 113, divided by Slope Rating. The 8 best from your most recent 20 form your index.
