How the Nassau Calculator Works

A Nassau bet is three side bets in one: the front 9 match, the back 9 match, and the overall 18-hole match. Each match has its own dollar amount. Tied matches don't count — no money changes hands. The calculator above totals all three matches plus any presses you triggered, then shows the net amount owed.

Common Nassau Bet Amounts

Nassau Press Rules

A press is an additional bet that starts when one side falls behind by 2 holes (the standard threshold; some groups use 1-down or "press at any time"). The press is a new match for the remaining holes at the same dollar amount as the original match. If you're 2 down through 6 holes on the front, you can press — now there's a new bet for holes 7, 8, 9 only. Win the press, you win that side's bet on the press; lose it, you owe both the original front-9 match and the press.

This calculator handles one press per match (front + back). For multi-press tracking — pressed presses, automatic 2-down presses, and overall-match presses on the back nine — use Settle Up Golf, which tracks unlimited press chains automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the front 9 winner automatically win the overall?

No. The overall is its own match across all 18 holes. You can win the front 9 by 2 holes, lose the back 9 by 5, and lose the overall by 3. Each match is independent.

What's a "9, 9, and 18 Nassau"?

That's just another name for a standard Nassau — the three bets are explicitly named: front 9, back 9, and the 18-hole overall.

Can a press push?

Yes. If a press starts on hole 7 and the players halve every remaining hole through hole 9, the press pushes — no money changes hands on it. Use the "Tied (push)" option for any press that ended even.

How do you handle handicap strokes in Nassau?

Apply each player's net score using their course handicap. Strokes go to the hardest holes per the hole handicap rating. The calculator above assumes you've already determined the winner of each match — net or gross is whatever you and your group agreed on. For full handicap automation, Settle Up Golf applies strokes correctly per hole based on each player's index.
